Buildings are some of the largest energy users in the world, accounting for over 30% of global final energy consumption and more than 55% of global electricity demand. As urban populations across the world increase over the coming decades, this figure is set to rise. The benefits of improving energy efficiency in the buildings sector include lower electricity and fuel costs for businesses and households, lower emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants, and increased reliability in meeting energy demand without costly infrastructure and disruptions. IPEEC’s work in this sector focuses on:
Facilitating the development and implementation of building energy efficiency measures and
programmes; and Promoting the adoption of energy management systems in commercial buildings.
