There is significant potential to increase efficiency in the power generation sector globally. For example, a 1% improvement of the efficiency of global thermal power generation would reduce CO2 emissions by 340 Mt (IPEEC, 2015).
IPEEC’s current work on the power sector is focused on the dissemination of energy efficient technologies and best practices in thermal power generation through the High Efficiency Low Emissions Task Group (HELE).
High Efficiency Low Eemissions Task Group (HELE)
The High Efficiency Low Emission Task Group (HELE) is a work stream on electricity generation. It aims to achieve energy efficiency improvements in thermal power generation through:
- understanding and dissemination of HELE technologies such as Ultra Super Critical and Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle in power plants; and
- development and dissemination of best practices in operation and maintenance.
