2016 has been an exciting year for IPEEC. Over the past twelve months, IPEEC’s country-led task groups have focused on activities to support energy efficiency improvement in the following areas: appliances and equipment, buildings, industrial energy management, electricity generation, transport and cross-sectoral issues. Nine task groups now progress work under the G20’s first long-term framework for energy efficiency, the G20 Energy Efficiency Leading Programme, which was endorsed by G20 energy ministers in June 2016. IPEEC was designated the lead coordinating organisation for the new programme. In addition, 2016 saw IPEEC increase its engagement with international organisations and the global energy efficiency community. All these and more are highlighted in IPEEC’s new annual report, Supporting Energy Efficiency Progress in Major Economies: Annual Report 2016, which is published today.

Energy efficiency is beneficial for the economy, the environment, and individuals, and it is through strong international collaboration on energy efficiency that countries can further the deployment of clean energy and sustainable growth worldwide. IPEEC has an ambitious work plan for 2017, and will continue to support the global dialogue on energy efficiency under the G20 Presidency of Germany.
