Transport Task Group (TTG)

The Transport Task Group (TTG) was established in 2015 by the G20 in order to identify and exchange best practices among G20 countries on the implementation of cost-effective energy efficiency and emission control measures in the transport sector. It provides domestic support and enhances capability for action to reduce the energy and environmental impacts of motor transport, especially heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs), for participating G20 countries. Membership

Lead member(s): the European Commission and the United States.

Participants: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Me , Russia and the United Kingdom. Implementing organisations are the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) and the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI).

Current activities

The TTG’s current activities are shaped around three pillars of work:

Organising regular policy exchanges on the development and implementation of HDV regulations and emission standards, as well as other transport efficiency issues;
Providing direct knowledge transfer and technical assistance to G20 countries; and
Delivering updates to G20 delegates and reflecting G20 priorities in the TTG’s work plan.

Achievements

Over the years, the TTG has supported the expanded adoption of world-class standards for HDVs by:

Hosting policy exchanges with leading members of the international transport community;
Publishing a report “Impacts of World-Class Vehicle Efficiency and Emissions Regulations in Select G20 Countries” on the status of policies for clean vehicles and fuels in select G20 countries;
Publishing a foundational briefing paper “Policies to Reduce Fuel Consumption, Air Pollution, and Carbon Emissions from Vehicles in G20 Nations”, which presents opportunities for policy action on clean fuels and vehicles in participating governments;
Setting up a work stream on technical and policy deep dives to inform research and policy formulation; and
Conducting a survey of participating countries on their institutional needs and technical challenges to inform the development of Policy Roadmaps.
