Energy Management Working Group (EMWG)
The Energy Management Working Group (EMWG) was launched in July 2010 to reduce global energy use in industry and commercial buildings by encouraging industrial facilities and commercial buildings to pursue continuous improvements in energy efficiency through the implementation of energy management systems, such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 50001 standard.
The EMWG contributes to work under the G20 Energy Efficiency Action Plan.

Participants: Australia, Canada, the European Union, India, Indonesia, Japan, Me , Republic of Korea, South Africa, Sweden and Turkey. China is an observer.
Recent developments
Over the past year, the EMWG has focused on fostering technical exchanges and designing collaborative solutions among participating countries to support greater uptake of effective energy management practices. As a result, in 2015 the EMWG:
- established a global certification scheme for ISO 50001 auditors to provide greater consistency in the implementation of ISO 50001;
- hosted a series of policy exchanges (including webinars and bilateral meetings) to share the latest policy and programme developments, and explore new areas for joint activities;
- published 16 practical case studies and data on the experiences of the early adopters of Energy Management Systems; and
- launched a new initiative called “ISO 50001 Collaborative” to accelerate the adoption of ISO 50001, working closely with the private sector.
